We went to check out the Jamie Bell playground this morning, the day after a big media event to mark its reconstruction. We were initially excited to see lots of people had the same idea.

However, when we got to the back, it was a little disappointing to see that the main castle at the back was still not quite done, and so it was fenced off.
Pretty impressive, considering this is what it looked like Friday morning. At this point, there were about thirty trucks parked all over the site.
Closer views of the castle. I like how the slides now appear to exit on the side facing the entrance to the playground, making it easier for parents to keep track of their kids. (the spiral slide used to exit out the backside)

Presumably these plaques were painted yesterday by community volunteers to be used as decorations.

The official opening has been rescheduled to Tuesday. (see update below)
It was good of the various corporations to chip in funds, and for Mike Holmes to donate the labour, but I found this bit of branding at the entrance to be a bit much.

Nominal bike content: after our visit, here we are working our way up the High Park Zoo hill, just before the gate where it gets really steep.

Update:
according to http://www.ward13.ca/ they are still looking for volunteers to move wood chips under the structure, and so the reopening will not be Tuesday.
Update: grand re-opening will be Friday, July 13 at 1:30 pm.
