May Day 2013: High Park sakura update
May 1, 2013 by jnyyz
The sakura should be partially blooming this weekend. Here is a picture of the trees on the soccer field that generally bloom a little earlier than the ones on the hill by the Grenadier restaurant.
and here is the top of the hill, with a close up. Only a few of the blooms are fully open, but we still have three warm days until the weekend.
These are the sakura at Robarts Library. They usually bloom about a week earlier than the ones in High Park, so this is what High Park will look like Mother’s Day weekend.
One thing is for sure: the traffic and hunt for parking is going to be horrible, so bike, walk, or take transit if you can. Traffic is going to be especially bad since the eastbound lanes of Bloor St. are closed for resurfacing between High Park and Keele. (Perfect timing, eh?) This means that coming from the east and turning left into the park is going to take a long time.
You have been warned!
Update: here are some better pictures of the Robarts Library sakura at Huron and Harbord.
