Cycle Toronto (AKA Toronto Cyclist’s Union) is selling socks as a fundraising mechanism. I was told that Urbane has them in stock, so I went down to pick up a pair.
I’m really pleased that they are DeFeet Wooleators, as those are my favourite three season sock. I see from the logo that Cycling Toronto is retaining the old logo, with just the text replaced. I guess they are not bothering with the rebranding exercise. They are $20, with (ironically) no Cycling Toronto member discount applicable
More often than not I see a cool bike parked outside Urbane. This time, there was this vintage Benotto with rod actuated brakes. The owner said that the brakes are not very effective in the rain. Here you can see that the shoes press upwards onto the underside of the rim. For the winter, she rides a more conventional bike, but for a sunny day like today, it is apparently a wonderful ride.
Just around the corner is this construction site.
This backhoe is on the exact spot of Frank Gehry’s boyhood home, which you can still see on Google street view. When asked, he said he didn’t particularly care that the old building was being torn down.
