Yesterday, it was a gloriously sunny spring day. It was time to put the winter beater away for the season. I wiped it down and put a good coat of Chain-L on the chain.
The wheels on this bike were built up with 24h Alfine hubs cut from a pair of OEM wheels, and the rim selection was really limited at the time. I had to go to Mavic UFO rims, which were really narrow. Now, after about four years, and one unfortunate session of riding about 800m on a flat, it seems that the front studded tire is not happy seating on the rim, so I swapped out the wheel with a generic MTB spare with a wider rim, so no more generator hub for the moment. I’m probably going to have to put at least a little money into this bike for next winter.
The neighbours suggested a family bike ride when they saw me working on bikes in the driveway, so after pulling our respective fleets out of the garages, off we went. It looks like the girls will get just one more season out of their respective bikes. Darn kids, they keep growing. At the same time, an opportunity for more bike shopping!
A snack stop at the park.
It being the first sunny “warm” day of the year, people were fighting over parking spots. A good day to be on two wheels. Looks like the sakura are going to be much later than last year. Not a big surprise given the relatively cold spring that we have had.
