We squeezed in four and a half heats.
Back to this morning. Several people set personal bests, including Calvin in Bluenose at 71.64 MPH and Todd in Bluenose at 74.84 MPH. Bluenose is now officially faster than Vortex.
The big news of the morning is that Graeme Obree set a new world record for single rider prone recumbents at 56.62 MPH. You can see from the wind meter that he is actually doing this against a 3 MPH headwind.
Note also that Graeme tried to qualify in Vortex. We approached him yesterday with the idea that he might try to tackle the British record in Vortex (which you might have guessed from yesterday’s post). He was very enthusiastic. Things I find out only in Battle Mountain: Graeme Obree and I have the same shoe size. Now that’s a sentence I didn’t anticipate ever typing. At any rate, the chain derailed after only a mile.
Here is an account from thursday:
Update: here is our video from 2013, with a cameo appearance by Graeme.
