The bike team has been very busy this summer. Shortly after ASME, they (along with all the other Engineering student design teams) had to vacate the building that they have occupied for the last five years or so; naturally this is because the building is being torn down in favour of a privately run student residence. As per most of these projects, the building is massively out of scale with its surroundings, dwarfing in particular the adjacent, lovely Lillian H Smith Library.
They are now occupying space in another U of T building that is much more modern and more easily kept up to all appropriate safety standards. Most of the other teams are not very active during the summer, and so for the moment, the bike team is luxuriating in a lot of space. Here is some of their stuff spread out after being moved to the new building. This picture was taken in May.
Just after lunch, Todd briefs the team on his and Cam’s visit to SpaceX where he was deeply impressed on their focus on a singular vision.
He also told us how his management style differs from that of Elon Musk, and why the timeline that he is gesturing towards is eminently reasonable. Someone has to get this man a new favourite T shirt.
Aerovelo has some blog posts and a new video to highlight their new bike for Battle Mountain 2014: Eta
There will be lots of exciting news from them in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: Today (June 9) they launched a kickstarter campaign.
