BM2015: Monday morning runs
September 14, 2015 by jnyyz
The weather looked positively evil at 6 am at the Super 8, and there was a big green blog approaching from the south on the radar, but we all headed out to the course just in case. It turned out to be a very busy morning of qualifying runs on the 2.5 mile course, although most of the runs were not wind legal.
Liverpool’s bike Arion1 looked great in its fancy livery. Ken went 58 mph, and Dave went 51 mph. Natasha has had problems riding it, so she has elected to race an unfaired M5.
Damjan’s bike is yellow this year.
Larry and Tom both ran Beagle. Larry went faster, but he had the benefit of a 16 mph tailwind.
HPVDT ran Thomas and Alan down the course in Vortex without a windshield to give them some experience. See if you can tell which one is which.
Calvin was not able to run Bluenose because the chainguard (Plexiglas) shattered.
Delft/Amsterdam had some issues with launching and crashing, and were not able to complete a run. They will try to qualify again tomorrow morning.
Jan Marcel dropped his chain as per his tradition, and coasted through the traps.
Ellen’s bike has a nice new paintjob.
Andrea was fast in PulsaR. Regrettably, we didn’t get a time, nor did I get a picture. I’ll get one later this week. His GPS indicated a max speed of about 103 kph.
Todd went 72 mph in Eta, which is the fastest qualifying run I can recall.
The highlights of the morning were the setting of two new world records.
Florian Kowalik set a new junior trike record of 53.41 mph, beating the old record by 7 mph in CO2.
Liz McTernan went 24.72 mph in an unfaired handcycle, beating the old record by 3 mph.
She tried her faired bike Beluga later in the session, but she had a mechanical.
Hoping for good weather tonight.
