A fine evening of racing, with most people setting new highest speeds for the week, even if some of them were not personal bests.
First heat: Aurélien, Jan and Alexei all raise their speeds for the week, but falling just short of their respective personal bests. Given that all three riders were getting used to new bikes, there is plenty of room for improvement. Thomas Ulph set a new personal best just shy of 60 mph and upgraded his hat to 55 mph in the process.
In the second heat, Jan Marcel unshipped his chain and then coasted five miles on what he said was three pedal strokes of power, coming through the traps at about 40 mph. Andrea would have set a new Italian record of 76 mph if the wind had been a little slower.
Third heat: two new world records. Florian went a little slower than this morning, but set a new junior men’s record of 62.69 mph. Given that he went 65 earlier in the day, we look forward to this record being reset again.
Todd Reichert bumped up his men’s record to a blazing 88.26 mph = 142.04 kph.
We surprised him with a specially commissioned 88 mph hat!
Congrats to Aerovelo for really raising the bar for everyone.
