As a follow up to the ride that was cancelled this past Sunday, a few of us rode out to Mississauga to have a ceremonial handoff of some “Bike Lanes on Bloor” items that have been part of the Bloor campaign in Toronto. Here I meet Albert and Mark at Runnymede, the current western end of the Bloor bike lanes.

Across the Humber river.

We were joined by Jay just past Royal York.

Riding the small section of separated bike lane at Six Points.

One thing that makes Bloor a logical connection to Mississauga for cyclists is the fact that there are no on or off ramps at the 427, even if the intersections with both the East Mall and the West Mall are quite busy.

We meet Rahul and Kris at the bridge over the Etobicoke Creek that marks the border between the two cities. They are handed “Bike Lanes on Bloor” safety vests. They will also receive the flags that date back to the Take the Tooker campaign.

Showing off all of the merch.

All smiles for a group photo.

More photos in front of the Mississauga sign.

Kim rides up to join at the last minute.

Once more with feeling.

The third public consultation on the Bloor bike lanes in Mississauga is Wednesday, March 9. This meeting was called at the insistence of the Applewood Neighbourhood Association that circulated a petition opposing the installation of the bike lanes.
A representative of the association also made an impassioned deputation, stating that the bike lanes would violate the charter rights of area residents.
You can listen to the deputation here
Rób Zaichkowski has a detailed analysis of the project on his blog, if you wish more information.
Here’s hoping that the city makes a reasoned decision after this public meeting.
There will be a follow up ride from Runnymede and Bloor to the Mississauga border on March 20. Details of the ride are in my previous post.
Let’s support our fellow cyclists all across the GTA!
