It’s been two years since I checked out what was happening along Eglinton heading east from Scarlett Rd. In an earlier post, I explored the new bike lane that was installed on the north side headed east from Jane, but I was disappointed that it ended at Pearen Park, well short of Weston Rd.
Since that time, others have posted some pictures of the bike lane improvements in this area so I wanted to check it out.
Here is what the south east corner of Jane and Eglinton looked like in January 2022. You are directed across Eglinton to a bidirectional bike lane that continues east from the intersection.
The bike lane on the north side is now blocked off by construction hoarding, but there is a new bike lane on the south side.
At the top of the hill.
The bike lane now goes all the way to Weston, where it ends.
However, there is a detour to a new bike lane on the north side. Here is the southeast corner, looking north. I like the solid looking protection that forms a refugee island on the corner. Please do this at Lakeshore and Ellis!
Now on the north side, looking east.
Past the underpass, and just past the Mt Dennis station.
The bike lane ends at Black Creek, and you are directed across to the south side again, where I can see a bike lane in the distance.
I’ll leave it to Rob’s blog; he has done a great job of documenting extended portions of the bike lanes along Eglinton.
Heading back west now. An LRT pulls into the station.
Fancy bike racks by the station.
Clear signage about when bikes are allowed on transit.
This is the main entrance to the station. This is going to be a great transit hub connecting the Crosstown LRT to the UPX and GO.
Peeking into the indoor bike parking.
Now heading back just west of Weston. This bus loading platform is an example of a permanent installation, as opposed to the Zicla platforms that have popped up along Bloor.
The bidirectional bike lane has the benefit of having a full motor vehicle lane width. The signage and markings are very clear, and there is drainage as well. Great to see how these designs have evolved over the years.
Always happy to pop into a local business along the Kingsway.
One last picture of another raised platform on Bloor just west of Jane. This one was done in asphalt since the curb was slightly curved.
Can hardly wait for the Eglinton LRT to open. I am also pleased to see they’ve thought about cycling to and from Mt. Dennis station. I do know that the installation of continuous bike lanes along Eglinton has been somewhat problematic since some sections were done by the city, and others by Metrolinx.
Did you see anywhere where we can do Eggs on Eglinton???
