Today was the second annual ride down Yonge St with Santa. Last year, part of the focus was to bring attention to the Reimagining Yonge project that proposed bike lanes between Sheppard and Finch. However, we had so much fun that we decided to do it again, also to celebrate the new bike lanes from Davisville to Bloor, and down University Ave.
Santa decided to take the subway again to the starting point. He was thankful for the elevators at all of the stations that we passed through.

A few of Santa’s helpers rode across from Finch West station.

The dynamic duo behind Bromptoning was taking lots of video. Looking forward to seeing the result. (See below!)

Here are all of Santa’s helpers at the start at Hendon Park.

Off we go, Rudolph in the lead.

Approaching the 401 crossing, the single most dangerous part of the ride.

Climbing the hill up from Hogg’s Hollow.

Santa getting a little help near the top of the hill.

Taking a break at Yonge Blvd Parkette.

At Lawrence.

A tight squeeze through the construction zone at Eglinton.

There was an organized pit stop just south of Eglinton.

This is Holly of the CycleTO Yonge working group. She arranged the pitstop, and also got the Midtown Yonge BIA to sponsor hot drinks for the riders.

Thanks to Hale Coffee and the Midtown Yonge BIA!

We are off again. Santa really appreciates the new Yonge bike lanes!

However, this SUV owner is going to get a lump of coal in their stocking.

Kay Pea was able to join us for the ride.

At Yonge and Bloor.

Along Bloor. Santa noted many planters and curbs out of position on Bloor between Bay and Avenue Rd.

Turning south on towards Queen’s Park Crescent.

While I wasn’t looking, it seems like we picked up a lot of riders along the way.

On University, just before turning left on Armoury.

At Nathan Phillips Square, Santa thanks everyone for riding.

The group picture.

The biking vet says that his dad is in the hospital and that he can see part of the square from his window.

Group picture by the Henry Moore for his dad.

Thanks to Janet Joy for organizing the ride, Albert for being the guest of honour, the many people that helped with marshalling, and Holly for the pit stop. It is always a joy to ride with Santa, and to hear friendly honking all the way down Yonge St.
Happy holidays everyone!
