One of the traditional events during this week is the Show and Shine, when all of the vehicles are brought to the Civic Center to be put on display for local kids. The hour before the kids arrive is also a nice time for everyone to chat and to exchange ideas about their bikes.
The Sprocket Rocket just barely fits.
Their transporter is somewhat illegally parked.
Chuck and Ivan are the builders of this machine.
Here is the captain’s chair. Denise steers with the lever on the right which swivels forward and back. The braking is done with the large handle on the left.
One of the new guards that keep long hair out of the drivetrain.
The retractable nose cone on the rear which adjusts ventilation.
The hand adjustable NACA duct. Both of these new additions have many components that were 3D printed.
Battle Mountain Mike with the ladies.
Eric Gundersen and Alastair who went 68.74 mph this morning.
Guillaume and François are discussing their plan for world domination.
The drivetrain on Altair 7.
The improved breathing mask.
Guillaume showing me the improvements on their fairing. It was pulled from the same mold as Altair 6, but there are two hoops of reinforcement just in front and behind the hatch. The hatch is now secured by two steel pins in addition to the magnets and tape used last year.
The rear pin is retractable by a cable accessible from a small opening in the tail.
Guillaume holding court around the drivetrain.
Alyssa with Teardrop
and with a life-size figure of her former self.
A conversation among the velomobile pilots.
Now the lineup for pizza. Thanks to Paula for lunch.
Monash.
Now the kids arrive.
The Sprocketts are the stars of the show, much as they have been on the track.
Always good for the event to give back to the community this way.
