Given the sunny weather, it was a great day to check out the Portlands again. I also wanted to see the changes due to the fact that they have been filling the new Don River bed over the next week or two. Once it is filled to lake level, the dams at both ends can be removed.

Now heading back towards Commisioners. This bridge seems to have the same LED lighting as the others. I do not know why it is not turned on at night.

The view looking south from the orange bridge that spans the new riverbed.

Looking north from the other side of the bridge. You can see the dam that will be removed.

Couldn’t resist riding onwards to the spit. I am enjoying a home baked cream cheese stuffed cookie.

Did I mention that the weather was spectacular?

On the way back, I run into the Richardson clan. Rumour is that Robin et al will be organizing a kidical mass over the new bridges.

One minor gear note; just for fun I thought I would compare two different wool socks. In particular, the striped pacas sock makes the claim that they are warm because of some alpaca wool content.

Smartwool heavy sock to the left, Pacas to the right. They have similar weights.

Conclusion: even though the pacas socks seem softer and less substantial, they were warmer. Certainly either choice was OK for about 3 hours at between 0-3°C. Cannot comment on the durability of the pacas sock since I have only had them for a couple of months.
